Italian traditional food is meant to be simple, fresh and delicious. I am happy to present some of my favourite rustic, peasant but very tasty Italian traditional food. In other words, this is Italian home cooking at it best!! You may well be surprised to learn that "Polenta" and "Focaccia" (the most humble of Italian peasant cuisine) for example, have very successfully found their way onto the menus of the very best of Italian and non-Italian restaurants alike! So, please do not be a food snob just because it may have had humble origins. Just enjoy the different flavours. Here is just a small selection of the many mouth-watering Italian recipes available. Some of these rural Italian food recipes have been used for centuries by peasant farmer's wives (Pattona, and Torta di Patate, for example) to feed hungry households, so have well stood the test of time. They are not the highly polished and intensely decorated type of Italian cuisine recipes that you will find in most modern Italian restaurants but the very basic home cooking that will guarantee a satisfied smile from everyone.
